ANALYSIS

REQUIREMENTS

  • Convey all the different types of packages/materials including cardboard boxes, plastic totes, and polybags

  • Divert at least five consecutive items down the same divert

  • Keep all packages orientated

  • Maintain the rate of 3 m/s

The analysis completed for this project explored multiple different aspects of the project. First, calculations were done to replicate the problem from Dematic tech center by calculating information  like the angle the box comes into contact with the roller. The analysis also looked at different things that would cause the problem, like the force it would take to rotate boxes over a given axis.  Another focus of the analysis was the behavior of boxes while on the conveyor by which was examined by calculating the contact speed and angle a box would hit the railing and spin at.

LAUNCHING ANGLE

This analysis is important for replicating the problem. Packages come from the crossbelt which has a horizontal and vertical velocity. Using those two velocities it was calculated that the boxes come into contact with the 9570 unit at a 40 degree angle which was important information to build the launcher from.

LAUNCHING VELOCITY

This analysis was to calculate the force it would take to launch the box on the launcher but the more important calculation from this was the speed of the velocity vector. Like, I previously said the cross belt has a vertical and horizontal velocity which creates a resultant velcoity vector. Calculating the velocity for the resultant vector is important because that velocity of 3.41 m/s has to be replicated for when the boxes are being launched onto the 9570 unit.
